Analyst Scorecard

The Analyst Scorecard provides a snapshot of the historical accuracy of analyst estimates. The green square with a plus sign represents times when the company beat analyst estimates, the gold square with a checkmark represents times when the company hit analyst estimates perfectly, and the red square with a minus sign represents times when the company’s earnings came in below analyst estimates. When estimates are not available, it will be indicated by a dash.

The estimates you see on the Analyst Scorecard may be different than the ones seen on the Historical Graph and Forecasting Calculators. The Analyst Scorecard locks the estimates, so they do not change, while the Historical Graph and Forecasting Calculators show the most recent revisions. More on that below.

1Y

The 1 Year Scorecard compares estimates made 1 year prior to the release of the company actuals. These estimates are locked in 1 year forward giving you a better guess of how predictable the company is. The more predictable the company is, the safer it is to invest in.

The estimates on the 1 Year Scorecard are given a 10% margin of error above and below the actuals. This means that if the estimates are within 10% of the actual, it is considered a Hit. If the actuals are more than 10% greater than the estimates, it is considered a Beat. If the actuals are more than 10% less than the estimates, it is considered a Miss.

2Y

The 2 Year Scorecard is just like the 1 Year Scorecard, except the estimates are made 2 years prior to the release of the company actuals.

The estimates on the 1 Year Scorecard are given a 20% margin of error above and below the actuals. This means that if the estimates are within 20% of the actual, it is considered a Hit. If the actuals are more than 20% greater than the estimates, it is considered a Beat. If the actuals are more than 20% less than the estimates, it is considered a Miss.

Summary

The Summary Chart gives a breakdown in the form of pie charts to give another look at how the analysts have performed in terms of their estimate accuracy. The pie chart will show percentage scores for each of the 3 categories (Hit, Beat, and Miss), and is also reflected on the bottom of the FAST FACTS in the Forecasting Calculators.
